3d printing seems like so much work!
Punished Props Academy (13 days ago)
It certainly can be, just like any other building process. The more you learn, the more familiar the process becomes.

OMG this looks like so much fun! I need more tools!

Have you ever tried tinting the clear gloss with colors? I usually use rattle cans, but I'm curious if the Alclad Gloss can be customized a bit.
Punished Props Academy (8 months ago)
There are transparent paints that would work well for that. Createx has a bunch: https://createxcolors.com/airbrush-colors/transparent-colors/5102.html

I need this box in my life XD

Blizzard made their own and it's pretty great: http://amzn.to/2EQzRRA
Obot1121 (10 months ago)
Love the video, just wish I could make one too.
Saree Kampf (11 months ago)
How can you do that without a 3-d printer? 😊
Punished Props Academy (11 months ago)
There are a variety of other options. For example, you could sculpt the pieces out of clay.
Filip Krček (11 months ago)
Hi all, Does anyone know, where to find the STLs for this model? Thank you.
Frank Riccobono (1 year ago)
I'm curious...since the box is fully painted, what's the reason for molding and casting it to resin instead of working with the 3D print material itself?
The cast resin is more durable and the molds give us a chance to quickly make more than one.
Neis OvO (1 year ago)
I just have a question... Do you sell or keep your props, c'ause I would want to keep the all, but I guess you have to make a living...
+Neis OvO We usually keep them. This one was sold to a client.

Ever since I saw the box in-game I've been wanting to make this project. Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to make the ring around the centre piece rotate like it does in game. Your work is incredible and inspiring!
Thanks!

Awesome intro!

I was expecting you to pull out a custom card of yourself from the box, but the lights were pretty funny! Hearthstone is one of FAVORITE games and I'm so glad to see this prop put together so AMAZINGLY!!! BRAVO!
RizaOtaku (1 year ago)
looks amazing 😁
BjaZ (1 year ago)
I think the only way to make it better is to make it from metal and wood rather than plastic
opulentcargo25 (1 year ago)
hey is there any way i am able to buy this? i do not have the equipment nor the skill to do something like this. but i really... really would like to get this hearthstone box.
Artillect (1 year ago)
I think the color is fine up until the gloss is added on, after that it looks too cartoony. Great work otherwise!
NotSoLogical (1 year ago)
Hearthstone is a very cartoony game though, I think it fits.

Great video! Maybe one day I'll attempt this. until then I'm sure there are some other things this video could be useful for since you showed so many techniques for accomplishing all sorts of building and crafting. :) Keep it up! PS: Is it just me or do her eyes resemble those of John Legere? :)
Pigumon (2 years ago)
I'd recommend making the 3D files thinner to be used only as a base, and then adding a layer of clay to it, to sculpt in the finer details. Ultimately it looked like a plastic toy version and the "wood grain" looked like carved lines. Spray gold doesn't look like real gold, which also adds to the toyish feel.
Wow
Mort (2 years ago)
this is so clever- really top notch work
SensibleGaming (2 years ago)
Do you both mind sharing the STL file you used? That way we can follow along with your steps to print out and make our own?
Pro Noob (2 years ago)
I can't believe how lazy you are. You can't even use real wood you had to make a fake. I would enjoy this if you built all the pieces that are wood out of wood. :(
Hot & Spicy Designs (2 years ago)
Very pretty tfs
Drew Baughman (2 years ago)
can i have a copy of the stl please
Chris Garifo (2 years ago)
Really enjoyed this build. What type of 3D printer do you have?
Marzito Lee (2 years ago)
How Much??!!
SmokeyMartian (2 years ago)
Would there be any way of doing this witout a 3d printer? Sans woodcarving
Kerry Gaston (2 years ago)

sticking with the blizzard theme. any foam build tips for lucios gun from Overwatch ^_^
MorganScott82 (2 years ago)
In general you wouldn't glue the bottom into the channel, but let it float there (just the tiniest bit undersized) captured by the glued to each other edges. This is because wood changes size in responses to changes in temperature and humidity, which can put pressure on the joints and cause them to fail. Plywood is more or less stable so you're probably fine here.
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
That's good to know, thanks! We have much to learn about wood :)
CassiusProps (2 years ago)
Oh nice, kinda looks like my box :D.

why not just use wood? (out of curiosity)
Joe Underwood (2 years ago)
Oh i see, cool! Love the design btw
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Joe Underwood you can totally use wood! I'd love to level my woodworking in the future :) My background is 3D modeling and plastics, and I'm excited to learn new tools and materials.
ReddehWow (2 years ago)
wood rots.
Nick Baker (2 years ago)
Amazing. You two are killing it!
amazing
MZONE3D (2 years ago)
Oh that is SUPERB
CheffBryan (2 years ago)
Why did you not use wood? You know wood is still MUCH cheaper and already has wood grain in it? You even use it for the bottom, so why not only print the brass workings?
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+CheffBryan I'd love to learn more about woodworking in the future. My knowledge so far is 3D modeling and molding and casting. Also, this box was a commission, and I'd love to someday (hopefully) cast another copy so I can have one for myself and another for a charity, like Desert Bus for Hope. It ends up saving us more time in the long run if we can cast a copy instead of re-making it from scratch.
WesleyLutz3D (2 years ago)
Very well done. That was an advanced build, it'll make a great portfolio piece :D Thanks for sharing.

Wayne Bakken (2 years ago)
All this needs is a tablet inside playing the game. or this would make for an excellent monitor surround.
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Wayne Bakken Yes, it needs a tablet!
Bakamoichigei (2 years ago)
That turned out brilliantly! Also, I laughed probably more than I should have at that intro and the 'cat petter' title. xD So, how much of the surface finish of the Hearthstone emblem is thanks to the XTC-3D, and how much is just primer, putty, and patience? Because right now I'm at the point where I've squeezed all the quality I'm going to get out of my printer, and it's time to work on my post-processing game. (...and XTC-3D is spendy! ;__;)
Bakamoichigei (2 years ago)
+Brittany Doran Ah, got it.  And that wood grain turned out great. :D  Sure beats trying to design it in! (Nevermind the fact it'd never show up in the print!)
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Bakamoichigei You can totally get by with just filler primer and spot putty. I wanted a nice epoxy shell of XTC-3D for carving in the wood grain.
Ty Hanson (2 years ago)
Okay, that looked freaking amazing guys!
Urikorose (2 years ago)
What type of paints do you use for your airbrush?
Urikorose (2 years ago)
Is there a particular brand you guys go with? What about sealant?
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Urikorose For this project, I used Alclad Lacquers. I've also thinned down acrylic paints with Isopropyl alcohol. As long as you have a thinner, several kinds of paints work with an airbrush.
Joshua Velez (2 years ago)
After watching this video I now have the urge to make the boardgame from Jumanji. If only I had a 3D printer!! Ha
Austin Reynolds (2 years ago)
That's a fantastic idea. You should do it!
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Joshua Velez Dude, a Jumanji board would be so awesome!

Utho Riley - Composer (2 years ago)
"cat petter" Now that's a title! xD Awesome work on the box btw, love it!

+Utho Riley Thanks! I live to serve our feline overlords :D
Petrino (2 years ago)
3d printer = 2 billion dollars dremel = 2 million dollars paints and shit = 1 billion dollars maya = 65 trillion dollars. such great tutorial for donald trump and bill gates :)
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Petrino Maya has free software for students and small businesses and also has a subscription. I learned Maya back in college, but I'd love to give a crack at Fusion 360 or Sketchup, which are way more printer friendly and also have free versions.
Petrino (2 years ago)
+Brittany Doran you couldajustbought one for what you paid for may. should get blender instead.
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Petrino forget the car, I'm printing a rocketship! To the moon!
Petrino (2 years ago)
+Brittany Doran the makerbot 32x :P 32 extruders! 32 colors! you can print a full sized car! it still doesnt auto- align the buldplate tho.
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)

Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Skaos87 Great idea!
Formerly Rod Line (2 years ago)
If I might ask,What criteria do you use to pick between the spot putty and the body filler? Thanks.
Formerly Rod Line (2 years ago)
+Brittany Doran p.s. Fantastic looking box., it's really beautiful
Formerly Rod Line (2 years ago)
+Brittany Doran thanks a ton for the information!
Brittany Doran (2 years ago)
+Rod Line Spot putty is air dry and doesn't cure to a supportive structure, but it's great for filling in tiny surface bubbles and print lines. Body filler is mixed in two parts and cures solid, it's thicker and fills in larger spots.
